Nothing Is for Certain

Anymore, everywhere you look there is some sort of “expert.”

There is nothing wrong with this. We are in the age of the internet and have an unlimited supply of information at our fingertips. With that, there are going to be tons of people who have dedicated countless hours studying certain topics.

You should definitely seek these experts too.

Following someone who is extremely experienced and knowledgable about a subject can save you tons of time and help you take leaps forward in your education rather than simple steps. There are countless subjects that I’ve talked about and gotten “wow” reactions simply because I sought expert advice rather than traditional research.

Now, the one thing you should worry about, and something that should cause you concern, is when someone puts certainties on you.

What I mean by this, is when someone tells you “this is the way and the only way. Follow what I say and there is 100% you will achieve what I am preaching.”

If there is one thing you can count on in life is that today is different from yesterday and tomorrow will also be different than today.

Some of these people who throw certainties on you are still good sources of information but I just advise that you proceed with caution. Many people who approach topics like that are just doing so because they want to have loyal followers that do not seek advise outside that which they are providing.

Now, I love people who encourage their readers/listeners to test out what they preach and explore alternate avenues. This is how education should work.

Don’t reinvent the wheel!

I’m sure you’ve heard this phrase a million times. This is an extremely old and common phrase used by teachers and leaders from around the world. It’s simply meant to discourage you from questioning their guidance.

The phrase is BS.

Sure, you can possibly get good, quick results by just following the path laid out for you. When I’m training a new agent at my company, I don’t want them to go too off-track from my teachings while they are learning the ropes. This is because they are learning so much and I want them to just grasp the concept of what we do at that time so that they can start making money right away.

That is just a temporary mindset though.

Reinventing the wheel can serve an amazing purpose.

First off, you can learn everything about it. If you dive deeper, you can figure out how and why the idea came to be. It gives it way more value.

Secondly, when you fully understand it front to back, you can potentially find improvements. Maybe you can make it faster? Make it more durable? Make it more affordable?

When it comes down to it, the only way to grow and become the best at whatever you are doing is by following 4 simple guidelines (and feel free to challenge me on this):

  1. Find reputable sources of information
  2. Educate yourself
  3. Apply, test, adjust and test again
  4. Wash, rinse, repeat

You have the power and ability to be great at whatever it is you set your mind to.

Embrace your power, find your mentors and go out there and get your glory!
